PROGRESS - Phase 2 Prep for paint at home

After the bodyshell was media blasted (in my garage by myself!  Can't believe what a mess the garage was after that!)  I epoxy primed the shell and got to work welding up the handles and locks.  6 weeks per door to get them straight.

This was followed by many months (in fact 2 years) of priming (2K primer from Autosupplies in Bolsover) and flatting, it was ready for the red coats.

This is where it got interesting.  2 houses away lives the environmental health officer for Derbyshire, so spraying isocyanite paint in a housing estate is out of the question, so I approached CSG bodyshop in Chesterfield to see if I could use their spray booth.  They agreed, but one of their painters (Pat) had to do it due to health and safety rules.  I spent nearly every night after work there getting the car masked and prepped for it s red gloss coats.  I then flatted back every area of the car for the graphics to be applied.  An airbrush artist called Andy Scott (based in Rotherham) was called in for the task.  Here is a photo of what he had to work with

Because the car is quite big and the garage is quite small, I had to make up a table to work on that the car could drive in underneath!  I also put some

curtains up to protect the car from dust and overspray and welding sparks.  The bonnet was stood on a custom framework hinged to the roof, so i could fold it up out of the way when the car comes in underneath!

.

And it's off to the paint shop we go!
